In My Studio This Week

In my studio this week, I am in a state of transition. I am in the midst of packing up to head north for the summer. I’m bringing all of the paintings in my “Wine, Women, and Song” series for potential display at a winery in Walla Walla, Washington. I did work more on those I had made in my Production Week and hope to use a few in my portfolio inventory.

Walla Walla is not a big city, but it is well known as an excellent wine producing area. Over 180 wineries are in business in Walla Walla and the surrounding area, and many have very artistic tasting rooms. I mentioned in my last blog post that I had one of the wineries interested in displaying my art. I had reached out to the owner several times since and hadn’t heard back. My artist self-doubt began creeping in and I felt I was being ghosted.

I decided not to put all my eggs in one basket and reached out to a few other wineries. That same day, I heard back from the original winery as well as one of the others I had contacted, and both are interested in my artwork! Good news (I think), also a stressor to some degree.

Finally, I finished the week with a fun lesson from the Kaleidoscope Taster Week going on right now.

Turning Production Week into Portfolio Paintings

These are individual photos. One of my coaches said this one was her favorite. I told her it was my least favorite.

This one I call “Girl in a Goblet.” She looks a little too depressed for my taste; I may work on her more.

This one is probably my favorite of the bunch. I really didn’t do much stylization on her because I liked her the way she was. I haven’t come up with a title yet, any ideas?

I had some fun with this one. I found some crinkly packing material and I thought it would give a nice 3-D effect to show her hair spilling out of the wine glass. I also went borlder and brighter with colors for her skin tones.

Such a Good Boy

I needed something small and quick I could do just so I could say I’m doing art every day that I can. Tamara LaPorte of Willowing.org is offering a Taster Week for her new and last year of Kaleidoscope. I took the class last year and learned much about color theory without it getting overly complicated. When I saw this cute lesson she was offering, I had to give it a go.

Takeaways

I am always amazed by the generous community of artists I encounter. The Mastery Program community has been very helpful with their critiques and feedback. Even when they are providing feedback on another artist’s paintings, I still learn. Temara LaPorte has always overwhelmed me with her true caring and generous heart.

BTW – I think I worked my way through all the fallout from being hacked. It does seem to be the gift that keeps on giving as the hacker also tried to open a Sezzle account and a Klarna account. They haven’t been the easiest to work with to get these accounts deleted.
