I have always been an artist. Growing up, I was the one kid in the family who caused the most trouble. I was highly imaginative and started my art “career” by scribbling what my parents called “horrible-eyed creatures” all over the walls. My parents did their best to find ways to let me practice my passion without destroying the house. My mom was even able to talk the local butcher out of butcher paper so I would have something to draw on. When that ran out, I would draw on used envelopes and doodle on any paper I could find--the backs of envelopes, margins of homework papers, schoolbook covers, and notebooks.  I took the traditional elective art classes in high school and college but chafed at the rules.

Fast forward many years where I found myself five years into retirement and recognized I had not done any art at all! That was a wake-up call for me and since then I have been trying to make up for lost time. I truly believe in the healing power of art and aim for doing something creative or art-related each day.  I follow the recommendations of Julia Cameron’s book – The Artist’s Way and encourage others to find healing through art.

I studied intensively under Robin Damore, a noted member of the Portrait Society of America. I am driven by a desire to engage others in art as a form of healing. I taught mixed-media, collage, and epoxy resin techniques in various locations in the Pacific Northwest. I’m also a current student of the year-long Mastery Program at the Milan Art Institute where my skills have grown exponentially.

Artist's Bio

Kerry has been living in the Pacific Northwest most of her life. After retirement she enjoys the life of a snowbird, alternating between Washington state and Arizona. Her formal education and work background focused on technical--a degree in Project Management and employment in diverse fields such as law enforcement and power plant construction and operation, she found ways to bring art into her work life. She started her art career at an early age scribbling what her parents called “horrible-eyed creatures” all over the walls. She would draw on anything she could find---the backs of envelopes, margins of homework papers, schoolbook covers, and notebooks.  She is overjoyed to be able to return to pursuing her art goals.

Kerry is a lifelong learner and explores art through online learning and in-person workshops. She has studied intensively under Robin Damore, a noted member of the Portrait Society of America. She is driven by her desire to engage others in art as a form of healing. She teaches mixed-media, collage, and epoxy resin techniques in various locations in the Pacific Northwest. Kerry is a current student of the year-long Mastery Program at the Milan Art Institute and has grown her skills exponentially.

She has a studio in both Arizona and Washington and is inspired by the dichotomy of the locations.  She is currently working on mixed-media paintings that strive to show the joy and beauty of getting older. Kerry is exploring innovative ways to bring texture and collage into the traditional approach to painting. Her early technical training has proved useful in her artist career as she is not afraid to grab a power tool, a torch, or a respirator to go even further into differing art techniques.
